Elihu Smith (1771-1798), physician, a friend to the famous of his time, and a writer of sorts, is best known for his editorship of the first entirely American poetry anthology, "American Poems." The book may be the first anthology limited to works by Americans as well as one of the earliest anthologies of any sort to appear in the nation.Downloads
