After receiving a positive review of his "Collected Poems" in "Harpers Monthly" (June, 1885) by Charles Dunham Deshler, Paul Hamilton Hayne ( 1830–1886) wrote Deshler and begins a correspondence with him. The letters from Hayne in this article reveal the toll the Civil War had taken on him as a "Traitor & Rebel."Downloads
