Focus and Scope

The Journal of the Rutgers University Libraries publishes fully reviewed papers. Articles of scholarly merit based on the holdings of Rutgers University Libraries, and in the areas of New Jersey history, Rutgersensia, bibliography, and the history of libraries, books and printing, will be considered for publication by the editor of the Journal. Subscription to the print or electronic form of the journal is free of charge.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides open access to all of its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work.

 

Editorial Review Process

Articles are generally submitted to the editor, although some are solicited by the editor if the article fits into a special thematic issue. Important selection criteria include interest to readership, clarity of writing, and originality. The editor reviews all submitted articles to see if they are consistent with the scope and purpose of the journal and if they demonstrate scholarly competence. The associate editor reviews each article for content, does copy editing, and fact checking. Certain articles receive further review by an editorial board member or expert in a particular academic field relevant to the article. Articles are returned to the authors to answer questions raised by the editors and to review editorial changes made by the editors.
